In the event of large-scale class cancellations or major campus closures caused by severely inclement weather or an emergency at any of our campus locations, an alert will be posted in the middle of DePaul's Web site at www.depaul.edu and messages will be posted on the university's main phone number at (312) 362-8000 and/or general announcement line at (312) 362-6226. Information will be updated as it becomes available. In the event of smaller scale cancellations, students will be notified via e-mail.
For a major disaster, DePaul's home page will be replaced with an emergency information Web site. It may take some browsers up to two hours to view the emergency information due to cache settings. In an emergency, this special information page can be reached directly and immediately at http://crisis.depaul.edu. This page is not available when DePaul is not facing a major emergency.
Chicago print and broadcast media are another source of class cancellation and campus closure information. Local media includes: Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun-Times, WBBM-TV (CBS), WMAQ-TV (NBC) , WLS-TV (ABC), WGN-TV (Independent), WFLD-TV (Fox), CLTV (Local 24-hour cable news), WGN-AM and WBBM-AM.
In addition, the Emergency Closing Center has established a public Web site at www.emergencyclosings.com where you can enter the name of your campus or its main phone number and check its status. If you see "No Report," that means DePaul has not reported a closing and we are open for business as usual. Each of DePaul’s campuses is listed separately. This site also offers you the opportunity to receive an automatic e-mail when your campus status has changed. Simply enter your e-mail address under the e-mail notification tab on the site.
Because e-mail is a critical communication tool, it is important that students, faculty and staff keep their demographic portfolio updated in Campus Connection. Please check that site to ensure you have reported your most current off-hours contact information, and update it whenever you move or get a new phone number.
